Jump Start with Atlantic Cape Community College
Jump Start is Atlantic Cape Community College's premiere high school recruitment/enrollment program for graduating seniors. Through Jump Start, Atlantic Cape recruiters visit high schools throughout Atlantic and Cape May Counties to talk about Atlantic Cape's admission process, programs and student services, financial aid and other education and career opportunities. The Jump Start program is rolled out in four phases: presentation and application; placement exam and course scheduling.
Phase 1: Presentation
Recruiters will address students in a group regarding Atlantic Cape degree and non-degree programs, how to prepare for the placement exam, tuition, applying for financial aid as well as the transfer process to interested in attending ACCC the following year.
Phase 2: Applying
In order to be considered for admission to Atlantic Cape, a student needs to submit an online application and speak with your high school counselor. Atlantic Cape recruiters will verify the students who will be participating in the Jump Start program.
Phase 3: Testing Requirement
Students are required to meet the testing requirement by taking the ACCUPLACER placement test or by providing sufficient SAT, ACT, or PARCC test scores earned within the last four years. Atlantic Cape’s testing staff will visit each high school to administer the ACCUPLACER, a computer-based exam that assesses students in the areas of reading comprehension, sentence skills, writing, arithmetic and algebra. Course selection will be based on the student’s performance on this exam.
Students are highly encouraged to review for the placement exam so they are well prepared and can visit the College Board website to view sample questions or download the ACCUPLACER Study App. Students may be exempt from the ACCUPLACER by submitting proof of sufficient SAT, ACT, or PARCC test scores to the Testing Office. Please refer to the list of exemptions for information about these minimum requirements.
Please note: Students whose native language is not English will be required to take the Oxford Online ESL Placement Test first. The test has a Use of English and a Listening section. Students are also required to write an essay.
Phase 4: Course Scheduling
Once students have completed an application and have taken the ACCUPLACER, they will then be able to schedule courses for the fall. Students can also schedule courses for the summer in order to get a quicker start to their college career. Atlantic Cape's advising and counseling staff meet with all high school seniors throughout Atlantic and Cape May Counties to schedule courses based on their program of interest and outcome of their placement exam. Students who enroll through Jump Start are at a great advantage because they are able to schedule classes early on in the process. Therefore, they are able to prepare a schedule based around work, family, etc. while classes are still readily available.
*The application fee can be waived if a student meets certain financial criteria and if the appropriate application fee waiver accompanies the application. Please check with your guidance office for further information.
